Fashion

This time Madhur Bhandarkar targeted the glamorous world of fashion, and yet again his love of the ‘underbelly’ revealed itself albeit in a different manner. Bellies, all well toned, shapely, were plenty and so were belles. However, it is but natural that a movie that moves around the ramp would show a lot of skin and I am not complaining about that. I have other problems with the movie and those are what I want to discuss here. Stock characters either white or black, Priyanka Chopra’s dumb-faced lack of screen presence, tons of moral policing from the director are mostly what created this unbearable urge in me to leave the auditorium. I did indeed overcome that urge and sit through the movie bravely and here’s what I found out. Firstly, all designers in Mumbai are gay. Secondly, Kangna Ranaut looked a better model than Miss Chopra but her dialogues need to be dubbed. Thirdly, it is an absolute must for a model to carry cigarettes in her bag even if she is a non-smoker, so that she can stick one between her lips, when she breaks up with her boyfriend.

Priyanka Chopra (Meghna) is a small town girl who wants to make it big on the ramp (somewhat like Konkona of Page 3). Kangna Ranaut is Gia meets Gitanjali Nagpal meets Carol Gracious. And Mugdha Godse plays a mediocre model who marries a gay designer out of sheer good-heartedness. She is so ‘good’ that she doesn’t even feel like sleeping with another guy like her husband does. Kangna is looking great but is sadly getting typecast by Bollywood as drug taking or suicidal freaks. Fashion is all about Meghna climbing up and down the ladder of success and facing a nervous breakdown after discovering herself in bed with a black man (perhaps because she feared she would get AIDS). Anyways, she doesn’t get AIDS after all, gets back home and comes back after a year and finally makes it to Paris (in spite of her plump look). Kitu Gidwani, Chautala of Chak De India, Arbaaz Khan and Samir Soni deserve special mention along with Bhandarkar’s cinematographer and designer.

Unfashionably Fashionable Shit.. is all thati can say…..and things those i liked in the film:

Kitu Gidwani still is beautiful than the “MODELS” in the film.

Arbaaz Khan always manages to get a drop dead beautiful wife…either offscreen or onscreen…well…

    things i didnt like..:
    1) The-not-so-fashinable -”Fashion”.
2)Priyanka Chopra, the small town girl, the struggling model, the successfool model, the “kicked-out” model, the “Plaster of Parisian Model-with a dead dumbo and expressionless face.

    :D:D
