KFF fashion funda
KFF is the short for the Kolkata Film Festival- the event that sees the so called intelligentsia (which includes both the intelligent and those faking it) rush to the Nandan - Rabindrasadan campus sporting their delegate cards, beards and khadi kurtas. That way, the festival is a great leveller you see. To wear anything synthetic is sacrilege- only natural fabric is permissible and, you shouldn’t preferably wear anything expensive either. Because, WB is a ‘communist’ state and the Film Fest is a proletariate matter. In any case, few people other than the software engineers dress up expensively in here. And of course, they have never even heard about the Film Fest.
So, like every other time, there were plenty of handloom sarees, skirts, pajamas, etc. etc. etc. Only a few imbeciles, young college goers coming here for the first time, were seen in leggings (that’s in) and short dresses. Accessories, also like every other time were chunky- huge wood and brass pendants, silver earrings, thicks strands of beads, thick kohl, took up the show in their hands. I don’t know why, but women out here have an unbeaten conviction that the heavier and more lack lustre their accessories, the more intelligent they look.
Celebs were few to be seen because they have fallen out with the govt. One or two tele serial artists that turned up fit the bill with their kurtas and denims. Few eternal fools like me indeed turned up in semi-formals. But hold on, that was only the first day. On my second day I recalled my faux bohemian look so that the crowd could immediately identify with me and think I am one of them.
