A handful of thoughts

What is this great uproar about Slumdog Millionaire winning 8 oscars? I mean don’t you all just get it??? It’s a bloody British movie made with American money for godsake. Only that the characters in the movie are Indians (mostly). By that standards Octopussy, Indiana Jones, City of Joy, are all Indian movies. But we never claimed anything so foolish did we?

Too many words have already been spoken on this and I do not wish to spend more. I feel good especially for Rahman and also others but again, what we hear from Rahman in Slumdog Millionaire is not even his average stuff. God knows when we’ll stop hankering for “international recognition”; I mean they came up with their standard consolation prize “the lifetime achievement award” to Satyajit Ray on his deathbed. But did that or does that change any damn thing about the quality of his work. Only good thing that came out of it is that the Indian artists will make some money and so will the film industry in general because hiring Indian stars would now be ‘fasionable’.
